Letter to the Mayor Project - The Week of the Young Child

  • Understand that air is a mixture of gases that is all around us and wind is moving air

  • Describe weather changes from day to day and over the seasons

  • Identify events around us that have repeating patterns, including the seasons of the year, day and night.

  • Understand that animals (including humans) and plants are living things that grow, reproduce, and need food, air, and water

  • Understand the differences between living and non-living things, and group them according to the characteristics they share

  • Sort objects by observable properties such as size, shape, color, weight, and texture

  • Identify objects as solid, or liquid, or gas and learn the properties of each

  • Describe and compare how humans and animals use parts of the body as tools (ex. teeth for cutting, hands for grasping)

**I teach social-emotional skills through Responsive Classroom management techniques. Across the district, we are using Second Step Curriculum to support students in becoming independent, community-oriented, self-assured, and problem-solving individuals. I use Second Step to supplement the way I approach and engage with our classroom community.
